So, you want to connect your Kindle to your hotspot to download some new books but your Kindle refuses to connect. You’re sure the password is right. Other devices can connect to your hotspot, so the hotspot is not the issue.
What’s going on?
I was struggling with this issue on my Kindle, and I might have found a solution that could work for you. I’ll walk you through the exact steps I took below.
Use WPA2-Personal security
On Android, you should be able to change the hotspot Security. It may have defaulted to a more advanced security protocol incompatible with Kindle.
To fix that, tap and hold on to the mobile hotspot icon in the quick slot menu to open the hotspot settings. Under Security, select WPA2-Personal.
Remove special characters from your password
Sometimes, Kindle struggles to connect to Wi-Fi networks that use complicated passwords with special symbols or capital letters. To make it easier, add a simple password to your hotspot. Plain letters usually work the best.
Weak passwords are easier to crack, but it’s not like anyone will hack your hotspot in the time it takes for your Kindle to download some books. Just turn it off when you’re done.
Only use 2.4GHz
Most Kindles don’t support 5GHz Wi-Fi. While some Kindle models can see 5GHz networks, they can’t connect to them.
So, the solution is to only use 2.4GHz for your mobile hotspot. Android makes it easy for you to toggle between 2.4GHz and 5GHz with the tap of a button.
On iPhone, enable Maximize Compatibility
On iPhone, look for an option in your hotspot settings called Maximize Compatibility. The feature is only available on iPhone 12 and newer devices. If your iPhone does not have this option, enable 2.4GHz and see if you can change the security to WPA2.
Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect
Another option is to head to your Kindle’s Wi-Fi settings and tap on Delete Wi-Fi Passwords. Every Wi-Fi password will be removed from your Kindle’s memory and you’ll need to reconnect it to your networks.
To summarize
So, in almost every case, change your hotspot’s security to WPA2, the Wi-Fi band to 2.4GHZ, and your Kindle will connect to your hotspot.
