Don’t worry, the Visa gift card should work. There are just a few things you need to double-check.
Can You Use a Visa Gift Card on the Xbox Store?
Yes. You can use a Visa gift card on the Xbox store by adding it as a payment option under the credit/debit card category. It’s a valid payment option.
How to Use a Visa Gift Card on the Xbox Store
Lots of people are running into problems when trying to use a Visa gift card on Xbox.
Let’s take a look at some solutions.
1 – Activate the Visa Gift Card
On the back of the Visa gift card, there should be instructions on how to activate the card. In some cases, there will be a phone number that have to call and follow the audio prompts.
Other cards require you to register the card online with your personal information. Make sure to activate the card before you use it. You will also need to register the card to an address and ZIP code.
2 – Enter Any Name or “A GIFT”
As you may have noticed, the cardholder’s name is a required field. Most Visa gift cards don’t have a cardholder’s name printed on the card as most debit or credit cards do. What name can you use?
Here’s the thing:
It doesn’t really matter what name you enter. You can try entering your real name. If that doesn’t work, enter the words “A GIFT” into the Cardholder Name field. It should work.
Is it still not working?
3 – Use a Third-Party Platform
If you tried the above options and the Visa gift card still refuses to work, you might be able to get around the restriction by using a third-party platform.
What you can do is use the Visa gift card on another platform to buy Xbox Gift Cards and then redeem those cards on the Microsoft store.
I’ll show you how to do that with G2A, an online software marketplace.
- Head over to browse G2A for Xbox Gift Cards (make sure it’s for your region’s currency).
- Click Add to Cart.
- Click on your Cart, and select Continue to Payment.
- Select the Credit or Debit Card payment option.
- Click Pay with Credit or Debit Card.
- Enter your Visa Gift Card information.
- Complete the transaction.
Once you bought the Xbox Gift card, you can redeem it on your Microsoft account. It will add the value of the card to your account’s credit. From there, when you head to the store page, you’ll see an option to buy the game using your account credit.
Wrapping it Up

If you do activate the card and it still doesn’t work, try to use it to buy Xbox Gift Cards from third-party platforms.
