Is the LG C1 Good for Gaming?

The LG C1 is great for gaming because it’s an OLED panel with 4K, 120 Hz,  HDR, FreeSync, and G-SYNC. The deep blacks and accurate colors make in-game graphics look incredibly immersive.

Having said that, there are some things you need to know about gaming on the LG C1 that most reviews don’t mention.

The good news is the price for the LG C1 has been steadily dropping which now puts it within the average person’s budget. Also if you want a newer model, the LG C2 has recently hit the market, although most of the features are the same as the C1.

Now let’s talk about gaming on the LG C1. There’s also a dedicated sub-Reddit for gaming on OLED, so you can tell it’s a popular topic.

Gaming Features on LG OLED C1

OLED Panel

Gaming on an OLED TV is a truly immersive experience. OLED panels are quite different than regular LCD TVs because with OLED each pixel generates its own light. That’s how OLED can achieve pure blacks.

What that means is colors in games will look much more life-like because the blacks are much darker, making the other colors pop more. Most people agree gaming on an OLED panel is a much better experience than with LCD TVs.

OLED is a bit more expensive than LCD panels but it’s totally worth it.

4K at 120 Hz

The LG C1 supports a native 4K resolution with up to a 120 Hz refresh rate. Remember, to activate 120 Hz on your TV you need to open a game that supports it. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 both support 4K at 120 Hz. The Xbox Series S can only do 120 Hz at 1080P on certain games.

Also, not every game can run at 120 Hz. You need to check the in-game settings for a performance or frame rate mode. Halo Infinite recently added 120 FPS mode. More console games are adding support for 120 Hz and it’s a major improvement on the standard 60 Hz.

Low Latency

The LG C1 has an advertised response time of 1 ms. Response time is not the same as input latency. The input latency on the C1 is about 10 ms which is decent for TVs. There’s barely any noticeable input lag on the C1.

Game Optimizer

The LG C1 has a feature called Game Optimizer which has presets for various types of games. It can help reduce input lag but it’s more effective on games running at 60 Hz. You can try the various presets to see what works for you.

In some cases, the Game Optimizer can actually add input lag and in that case, you can entirely disable it.

Those are just a few of the LG C1’s gaming features.

LG C1 for PC Gaming

The LG C1 caters to the PC gaming industry in a number of ways. Besides the beautiful image quality, the LG C1 supports FreeSync and G-Sync.

You can use the LG C1 as a gaming monitor. However, to make the most of the display, your PC should be able to run games at a stable 60 frames a second at 4K resolution.

In other words, you will need a relatively powerful computer. There’s also the option to run games at 1440P on the LG C1, which is the sweet spot between visuals and performance.

The LG C1 is great for PC gamers, and you won’t regret buying one. You can also use the C1 as the main display for your PC. The only problem with using the LG C1 for PC productivity is you need a rather large desk to accommodate the size of the TV.

I personally prefer using a dual monitor set up for my PC but to each his own.

You can connect your PC to your LG C1 and kick back on the couch with a controller.

Xbox Series X with LG C1

If you’re looking to pair your Xbox Series X with a new 4K TV, the LG C1 is a great option. It supports all the next-gen features that come with the Xbox Series X and the image quality is incredible.

In fact, most people buy the LG C1 for either the Xbox Series X or the Playstation 5. It’s one of the best displays to pair with the next-gen consoles.

Downsides to Gaming on LG OLED C1

On the other hand, while the colors, gaming features, and image quality are great on the C1, there are a couple of downsides. The main downside is the risk of burn-in. In reality, burn-in is not as common as people would like you to think.

Burn-in Issues did a burn-in test on OLED in 2019 and the OLED TVs did start to show burn-in issues after 9000 hours of non-stop screen time with the same TV channel with static banners.

Bear in mind, that the test was done in 2019 and newer OLED TVs have more anti-burn-in features, such as screen-shift, logo luminance, pixel refresher, and others.

So burn-in sounds scary, but in reality, it’s not that big of an issue. It’s only likely to happen if you play the same game that has a static banner for thousands of hours. Most people don’t play the same game for 8 hrs a day or more.

Also, the color red is more likely to burn in than others, so you might want to avoid games that have a static red HUD. Overall, most of the fears around burn-in are not warranted. An LG C1 can be used all day, for years, without showing signs of burn-in.

Dim Display

Most OLED panels are not very bright because they don’t use a backlight. The LG C1 has a maximum peak brightness of 800 nits. It’s not optimal for daytime use in a bright room. However, most people prefer to game at night anyway, it won’t impact you much.

Of course, other TVs are much brighter, but I don’t really need a flashlight shining in my face at all times. The brightness of the LG C1 OLED is perfect for me.

The Bottom Line

Overall, I have to say the LG C1 offers very good gaming performance and features.  If you’re looking for a next-gen display, this is it. You won’t be disappointed. Once you go OLED, you can never go back to regular LCD TVs. Grab an LG C1 TV today from Amazon.
