If you can’t reach that limit on your current PC, you can buy a 240 Hz monitor to future-proof for your next build. However, most people who upgrade to 240 Hz do so to improve their rank in competitive first-person shooter games like CS GO, Overwatch, and Valorant.
If you’re not much of a gamer, it doesn’t make much sense to buy a 240 Hz monitor. For that reason, 240 Hz is usually only recommended for people with top-tier hardware. Since a 240 Hz monitor refreshes 240 times a second, you can potentially “see” 240 frames a second on your screen.
The result is animations and movement will be extremely fluid and more realistic, allowing you to react faster. It’s not just about smoother animations. Distracting visual artefacts like screen-tearing and motion blur will be eliminated too, so you’ll have a much clearer image.

However, if you have money to spend, you have high-end hardware, and you want the absolute smoothest gameplay possible, moving to 240 Hz might be worth it for you.
Remember, your computer has to be able to push out enough frames for it to make a difference. Chances are you can reach 144 + FPS on older games, but does your computer reach 240 + FPS? What about newer games?
I personally would stick to 144 Hz and upgrade in other areas, such as a higher resolution. 1440P at 144 Hz is a great idea too.
