Looking for a way to chat faster in Among Us on mobile? Here’s the situation: so you joined a lobby in a game of Among Us and it’s not long before your crewmates find and report a dead body.
As is usual, Red drops the accusation that you’re suspect. While you’re fiddling with your touchpad, trying to type something not entirely filled with typos, you’re voted out of the game. Game over.
You weren’t able to defend yourself because you were chatting too slow. Anyone who has played Among Us on mobile knows how that feels. It’s unfair. If only there was a way to chat faster in Among Us on mobile.
How to Chat Faster in Among Us:
On the current build of the game, Among Us on mobile does not support keyboard input, so the best way to chat faster is to use your phone’s voice to text function. On the PC version, you can use a mouse and keyboard, which makes chatting much faster.
It’s not the most efficient message and might make you seem like a serial killer when on public transportation. “I didn’t kill him, I swear!“, “Where did they find the body?!” But it can help you to defend yourself before you’re voted out.
1 – Quick Chat Wheel
A recent Among Us update added the ever-so needed quick chat option. Now it’s much easier to communicate with simple questions and answers. To use the quick chat menu, tap the chat icon as you normally would during a meeting and select the chat category.
Here’s a screenshot of how it looks:
There are several categories, such as responses, questions, crews, locations, and others. I found the question category is the most useful. So if the text chatting options in Among Us frustrated you as they did with me, now it’s a little bit easier to chat with people.
2 – Voice to Text Keyboard
As mentioned, this is one way to type fast on mobile. The performance will vary depending on your phone, accent, and how fast you talk, but it the Google keyboard is relatively accurate. Of course, this is only helpful when you’re alone, in public, as I said, you’ll probably look insane.
3 – Voice Chat on Mobile:
The best way to play Among Us is through voice chat. Currently, both the PC and mobile versions do not support voice chat. Most voice chat apps will work, but the whole point of voice chat is to keep quiet until a meeting is called.
And even if you agree to keep quiet, a quick laugh or shout could easily give away who the Imposter is and ruin the game for everyone. While most voice chat applications can run in the background, it’s best to find one that lets you mute and unmute with as few taps as possible. Discord on mobile is your best option.
Discord Mobile:
I think the Discord app is the best way to voice chat in Among Us on mobile because it has a floating icon similar to Facebook Messenger, except on Discord you can tap the icon to quickly mute or unmute yourself.
It makes the game a lot easier because instead of hitting the chat button, typing, and then tapping enter, you can simply tap the unmute button to start raging at your friends. Of course, that means mean need to get your friends to not only create a Discord account and join a server but also mute and unmute at the right times, which is surprisingly hard.
But if you manage to organize everyone, it can be a lot of fun, and both Among Us and Discord are free, so there’s nothing to worry about. Maybe in the future Among Us on mobile will allow you to use external inputs like a mouse and keyboard with Samsung Dex, but that’s not possible at the moment.
There are plenty of Among Us Discord channels you can join to find random people to play with too.
3 – Mobile Keyboard Swipe
The swipe function on mobile keyboards is pretty useful too. I admit, I find it easier to use it than typing in landscape mode. Of course, every now and then the keyboard will be determined to show some random word you would never type in your life, but for the most part, it works fast enough.
Among Us FAQ:
Is Among Us Cross Platform?
Yes. The PC and mobile versions of Among Us are cross-platform and you can play in the same lobbies as your friends on other devices. For example, Steam users can play with mobile users, and so on. If you have a computer, I recommend the Steam version, it costs $4 but the mouse, keyboard, and Discord support make the game a lot easier.
Can You Play Among Us on PC for Free?
Yes. You can download Bluestacks, a free Android emulator that allows downloading apps and games from Google Play and it supports mouse and keyboard too. I played like this for a few rounds but the mobile layout on PC confuses me, I ended up buying the Steam version.
Is Discord Mobile and PC Cross-Platform?
Yes. Users on the Discord app can join the same channels that PC members can join and everyone can voice chat together.
Can You Play Among Us on Consoles?
No. Currently Among Us doesn’t support controllers and is not available on consoles. That may change in the future, as the development continues, but the current state does not work on consoles, only PC and mobile.
Wrapping it Up:
As it is, chatting on the mobile version of Among Us is a headache. You have to resort to cutting words short to get your point across fast enough to avoid being voted out. Either way, with some practice, you can learn to type fast on Among Us with the basic keyboard layout, it’s just a headache to use. I recommend trying to get your friends in a mobile Discord channel and using the mute and unmute function.
